11:28PM
Why? Let my objection be noted.
6:18PM
I'm just reading an article about some white professionals who moved into a newly constructued, very expensive building, who are oh so sad about the noise that comes from AFrican drumming in the park near by. This is in Harlem, NY. That makes me so irritated. If they don't like it the privileged yuppies shouldn't have fucking moved into a neighborhood where drumming has been a tradition since 1969. The entitlement of some people never fails to amaze.
"Their supporters, who acknowledge that the drumbeats can pierce walls and windows, regard the musicians as part of the city’s vibrant and often noisy cultural mix. But some in the building at 2002 Fifth Avenue, most of them young white professionals, have a different perspective: When the drummers occupy a spot nearby, residents say, they are unable to sleep, hear their television sets, speak on the telephone, or even have conversations with their spouses without shouting. Some say they cannot even think straight." -- boo fucking hoo.

4:55PM - the singing of the national anthem
wow! this is pretty incredible!
Rene Marie sings "black national anthem"
what's incredible to me:
- her performance of the song is amazing and powerful.
- her courage is incredible.
- I cannot believe how so many people have their panties all up in a wad over this.
- this song helped me clue in that I am premenstrual, because about halfway through the video i just started cryin.
-oh, and the person who introduced her didn't even say her name right!

12:47PM - jewish whore tricked mr. straight whiteman into the pursuit of justice!
StraightWhiteMan, a brilliant artist, sits at his laptop excercising his time-honed skill as a programmer and innovator in Max/msp/jitter in the programming of a new work by TW.
Mr. SWM: " Yeah, identity based work -- you get no sympathy from me there. All political work is narcissistic and redundant. I mean, if you have something political to tell me, let's have a conversation. Don't make me -- ugh, I couldn't care less...!"
Minutes went by.
TW: "...all...?" (thoughfully remembers that he needs SWM to finish the programming of 'Block Of Ice +1/60", a digital performance installation about hydrology, labour, and privilege.)
SWM: "Yeah. I mean, you have to remember, I came up in the 80's....when EEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVrything and eeeeeeeeverybody's work was identity politics. ...."
I can't remember what he said at that point, somehow I think it was something about how the only work funded or supported was "identity politics", and as a composer of electroacoustic noise, I guess it meant he felt left out and resented it. I think he also implied something along the lines of 'thank g-d that's over' kind of thing....
It was an interesting excercise in holding my tongue. He had been kind of snippy earlier, and getting the work done was a higher priority than pointing out how perfectly he had just articulated the subject position of a straight, white, male identity.
SWM: "Nothing personal, I mean....."
TW: "Oh, I know it's not personal. If it were, I wouldn't ask."
Some more minutes passed.
TW: "So.....do you have any critique of this piece? Some constructive criticism in order that this piece could be less narcissistic and redundant?"
He stammered, didn't look at me, continued programming the piece, and mumbled something about how he didn't exactly 'get it' and so couldn't comment -- and it was time to go.

Tensions Mount Over Lithuanian Probe
By Lana Gersten
and Marc Perelman Wed. Jul 02, 2008
A meeting between Jewish communal officials and Lithuania’s prime minister did not dispel increasing tension over Lithuania’s investigation into alleged war crimes committed by Jewish partisans during World War II.
During a visit to New York, Lithuanian Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas made stops at both the American Jewish Committee and the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. At both places, he was grilled on a current judicial probe in which three Jewish partisans, all of whom fought with the Red Army’s anti-Nazi resistance movement, are being questioned.
The three people being questioned, including a former chairman of the Yad Vashem museum and two women who give tours of the Vilnius (also known to Jews as Vilna) ghetto, have denied the allegations. While no charges have been pressed, and the details of the probe remain cloaked in secrecy, it is known that Lithuanian authorities are looking to interrogate the Jewish suspects about their role in a January 1944 massacre in the village of Koniuchy (now Kaniûkai, Lithuania).
Given that only three Lithuanians have ever been tried for wartime crimes against Jews — nearly 200,000 of whom were murdered — the ongoing investigation of Jews has not gone over well outside Lithuania. ( Read more... )

From its Texas Rangers to its enthusiastic take on the death penalty, the Lone Star State has long been known for its aggressive stance on law enforcement. Thanks to a strange new law, it's a sting that may soon be felt by a number of the state's computer-repair people.
